To the Editors:
I am prepared to believe that anything Miss Lurie praises is good [NYR, June 12]. But I am puzzled by the piece of descriptive prose she cites from Shardik. “A sound like a dry waterfall or the breathing of a giant.” I have never heard a giant breathe, but all the dry waterfalls I have known have always been silent.
