The Lives of Ancient Women from the October 30, 1975 issue

To the Editors:

It is ironic that Professor Badian in a review [NYR, October 30] which stresses the historical invisibility of women should himself neglect to mention the name of the woman who made the sculptures he praises repeatedly.

Marcelle Quinton, whose sculptures of animal women are photographed throughout the book, Female of the Species, is a distinguished British artist whose work has been exhibited in Europe and America, and whose heads of Professor Roy Harrod and the playwright Robert Bolt are famous in England….
