In “The Age of Biology,” 31 December issue, Stephen Toulmin says:
Yet the truth (in Lady Bracknell’s immortal phrase) “is never pure and rarely simple!”
It wasn’t Lady Bracknell. It was Algernon. And what he said was: “The truth is rarely pure and never simple” (Importance of Being Earnest, Act I).
