I’m sorry to say that I have misread some of Joan Acocella’s remarks about Sharon O’Brien [NYR, November 30]. I understood her to be saying that O’Brien’s sense of empowerment through her work on Cather came because of her own sexuality. This is not so, and I apologize for the misunderstanding.
