Sadik J. Al-Azm is Emeritus Professor of Modern European Philosophy at the University of Damascus. His writings include The Origins of Kant’s Arguments in the Antinomies and The Tabooing Mentality: Salman Rushdie and the Truth of Literature (in Arabic), and the long essay "The Importance of Being Earnest about Salman Rushdie."
