A Missing 'S'

By John Updike

In response to 'Therefore I Print'* (May 17, 2001)

To the Editors:

Professor Nicholas Warner has kindly called to my attention that, in reviewing the William Blake exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art [NYR, May 17], I ascribed to the poem "London" a phrase in fact from another poem, "The Chimney Sweeper," and that I misquoted a line from The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: "Eternity is in love with the production of time" should have been the less mysterious if less interesting "Eternity is in love with the productions of time."
