I apologize for my mistranslation of Wöhler’s “Cyansäure” [see letter of April 9, 1970]. The deep impression made by his synthesis of urea on Berzelius, Liebig, Dumas, and others is not hearsay, but is fully documented in the literature. Interested readers will find citations of relevant primary sources in (inter alia) Das Buch der grossen Chemiker, G. Bugge, editor, Verlag Chemie, Weinheim-Bergstrasse, 1965.
